The Neuroscience Nursing Symposium was on February 15-16, 2008 at the Ritz Carlton South Beach. Dr. Mark Shaya was the course director and about 200 neuroscience nurses from around the country attended. Speakers included Dr. Mark Shaya from the University of Miami Hospital; Dr. Aldo Berti from University of Miami Hospital; Dr. Ali Sultan from the University of Miami Department of Neurosurgery; Dr. Linda Sternau from Mt. Sinai Hospital; Aileen Staller, MSN, CNRN, OCN, from the Moffitt Cancer Center; Dr. Jeffrey Horstmyer from Mercy Hospital; Dr. Ernesto Coscarella from the UM Department of Neurosurgery; Dr. James Schwade from the Cyberknife Center of Miami; Dr. Greg Lacle from Oranjestad, Aruba; Sheryl Shetsky from the Florida Brain Tumor Association; and Ellen Barker, MSN, APN, CNRN, ALCP, ABDA, who is the author of the textbook Neuroscience Nursing.

Ten Contact hours were awarded for the registrants. The evening reception was held at the Star Bar of the Ritz Carlton South Beach. Next year’s Neuroscience Nursing Symposium will be held on February 20-21, 2009 at the same location and the featured speaker will be Mary Kay Bader, MSN, RN, CCRN, CNRN, from Mission Viejo, California. She is an expert on traumatic brain injury and subarachnoid hemorrhage.
